Turning Colonel Sanders Into Pumpkin

Guess who’s greeting "Trick or Treaters" at my house this year? That’s right Colonel Sanders himself! When I lost the battle of costumes this year (the KFC costume tributes staring my daughter) to my wife, I knew there had to be some other way to get “the colonel” into Halloween. It came to me when my wife asked if I had any ideas for the Jack-O-Lantern pumpkin…I thought for a second and then yelled ”KFC Baby!!”
Then the rest was history. I had to make the pumpkin stencil myself in Illustrator and Photoshop, it’s actually kind of a hack job, but I didn’t have much time. The J.O.B. is having a pumpkin-carving contest Tuesday so this version had to work. Wish me luck; I think first prize is a vacation to Fiji (I wish - in reality $25 Amazon.com gift certificate). But that doesn’t matter; it’s all about stopping at KFC before the judging and sticking chicken in the pumpkin. And after judging, me eating that “Finger lickin' good” chicken. Because that's what Halloween is all about - candy and chicken in a bucket (pumpkin).

By the way! If you're interested in my Colonel Sanders pumpkin stencil pattern for some 'Colonel Magic' of your own, click on the image and then save it to your desktop. You can use it for free! I recommend using some Pumpkin Masters tools. They sell them at Target. Please don't post this on your own site as your own (that would make 'The Colonel' very angry)

Fabulous!

If that doesn't win you a trip to Fiji, then I don't know what will.

And upon bringing it to KFC, they should be filling it for FREE, what with your free advertising....

I suck at pumpkin carving, so sending me the stencil would be a waste, but that. looks. awesome. You better win!

They should totally give the chicken to you for free for that. The coolest pumpkin EVER!

My big question with these intricate pumpkins is this: how do you get those tiny little cuts? I find pumpkins pretty resistant suckers, so my attempts are usually, well, a little choppy. Is the secret in scraping it down to where it's thin enough to cut easily, in some special pumpkin-carving ginsu knives, what? Impressive, though, any which way you clise it...

kittenpie - I trained in the "art of pumpkin carving" at some cave in Tibet back in '89. I'd like to think. Actually I discovered something called "Pumpkin Masters carving kit" at a Halloween clearance sale at Target a few years back. The little tools (pokers, drills, scrapers) really do wonders. With some patience and a steady hand, you can do some pretty cool stuff. I've collected a few of their tools over the years, now I have a small toolbox going.

Everybody- yes! I think KFC should be sending me a few buckets for this.

DUDE! That is the best damn carving I have ever seen.
You should TOTALLY win.
But eat chicken out of the slimy innards of a punkin?
Nuh-uh. No way. NEVAH.

Um, yeah, only if you come scrape out the nasty insides for me. Gross! Nothing makes me want to puke more than pumpkin guts (well, except for puke iteself).

So no trip to Fiji. I came in second and won 4 movie tickets.

I guess some judge must have been angry at KFC for taking the trans fat out of the chicken and took it out on me and my pumpkin.

From now on, you're the Pumpkin Master. That's one impressive squash you got there.
